SCI reports flat funeral volumes and sets 2026 adjusted EPS at $3.94 to $4.04
Why this matters: our read
For an independent home in a market SCI serves, the release shows the company spending more on selling and advertising to win preneed contracts while its own funeral counts are flat.
Service Corporation International (SCI) reported third quarter 2026 results on October 28, 2026. Total comparable funeral services performed were 83,638, against 83,686 a year earlier, a 0.1% decline. The total comparable cremation rate was 65.0%, against 64.4%. Comparable funeral preneed sales production rose 6%. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.97, up 11% from $0.87.
Chairman and chief executive Tom Ryan said the funeral segment benefited from rising average revenue per service and what he called “stable funeral service volumes.” SCI expects fourth quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1.10 to $1.20 and now expects full-year adjusted earnings per share of $3.94 to $4.04. It said that outlook reflects lower funeral volumes than it originally anticipated, the continued impact of higher healthcare costs, and higher selling compensation and advertising and marketing spending tied to preneed sales growth. It left its full-year adjusted operating cash flow outlook unchanged, with a midpoint of $1,085 million.
